Its June, we are in the 6th month of the year.. Where the heck has the time gone… I need the clock to slow the heck down…
This past weekend was National Trails Day. For those who don’t know, its the day were across the United States volunteers get together to help out our local parks. I didn’t know this existed until I met Ryan, and now we are on our #-th year, which means a few cool and fun t-shirts! It’s honestly why I go.. hehe (jk)
This year we spent our Saturday morning redoing the “stairs” to head down to a pond in our park. Honestly, I was pumped we weren’t actually by the water like previous years where the mosquitoes are killer! Nothing like being hot and sweaty and swatting at thousands of bugs…ewe. I really enjoy working with strangers to complete a DNR project in a couple hours, the projects range from pulling invasive species or building, trimming anything you can think off.
I forgot to take a before picture, but here is the finished product!
There was about 8 of us that removed old logs, and replaced them with 6×6 boards, drove them into the earth with rebar and compacted stone under and around the boards for support. Then placed mulch on top! BEAUTIFUL if I do say so myself. If you haven’t ever volunteered and help in your local park, the first weekend in June is always National Park Day, we team up with REI (local sporting goods store) and complete projects, do you part sign up!
Robin Update: As seen in the feature picture, they are growing fast, and turning into the cutest things ever!!! When Ryan went up for his pictures, the baby bird though he was his mom, and opened his mouth for food.
